About Parrot Hut

Parrot Hut was founded in 2008 in Gulf Breeze, FL by Ed & Melissa Morgan. Our primary goal is to bring education to the parrot loving public throughout the world by creating great informational podcasts that people can listen to on the go, at home, or at work. We also plan to expand our services to help reduce the overall costs of ownership to parrot companions, first in the US, and then to as many countries as we are possibly able. We have a revolutionary idea for a new bird shop, that will start online first, and then move to shops across the country. With a strong commitment to the lives that we are entrusted with their care, and the desire to make providing a comfortable and entertaining environment for your bird less expensive and less stressful, we will have a shop with a strong heart. This is something that is missing in many shops within the industry, and we hope to start a new vision for the industry as a whole. Most bird shops look at their birds as products, and stop seeing them as living, breathing, individuals that need love and attention every day. We have taken many stores to task in the past with this attitude, and have been attacked by the owners of these stores quite often. In the beginning, we were a little naive to think that they were just misinformed, and that they would welcome learning what they were doing incorrectly. We found in most cases that either they simply didn't care or their pride was more important than the well-being of the lives they were responsible in caring for within their store. Some of these owners have attempted to tear down our reputations, both online and in the communities that we work. They took some true situations and twisted them to reflect badly on us, or just lied outright about us. One of them even took us to court, claiming slander, but after a long court battle, we defeated these claims in the end. We had to fight on our own against their attorney, even as he tried to claim that even if the things we said were true, it was still slander based on an anti-defamation case that went before the Supreme Court. If you have seen shops, as we have, that have thrown birds out like garbage when they were ill, that make false claims or those that have numerous birds with injuries such as missing toes or plucked feathers, then you know what concerns us. So today, we are now committing ourselves to bringing the first Parrot Hut shop to life, and give the world a choice when it comes to proper bird care.

Our primary goal is education, and to that end, we are starting the podcast first. Through the podcast, we will bring weekly hour long episodes that will be fun and informative, for all level of bird companions. With your help, we hope to bring this program to more and more people, teaching them the joy of caring for parrots each week. We hope to bring a second hour of programming each week in due time, and our hope is to keep all episodes free to the public, with the help of donations from our valued listeners and the support of sponsors. As the episodes increase in number within the archive, the amount of information will be vast. We will have interviews with Avian Vets, Authors, and experts, as well is articles on a variety of topics. In time, there will be little that you will not be able to resolve in your parrot's world from listening to The Parrot Hut.

About Ed Morgan, Host of The Parrot Hut

Ed Morgan, Host of The Parrot Hut

Ed Morgan has been working with birds since taking in his first Cockatiel, Charlie, a little over 20 years ago. He has worked hard to increase his knowledge about all varieties of parrots, as his interest in them grew over the years. He has focused on breeding, first aid, and proper care, as many of us do as our flocks grow. He was physically disabled after a major auto accident in 1991, at which time he began focusing more time to learning about parrots of all types. With the help of his wife, he currently cares for a large flock of Cockatiels, Budgies, an Umbrella Cockatoo, Panama Amazon, White-capped Pionus, Goffin's Cockatoo, and a White-bellied Caique. He and his wife, Melissa, love all parrots and their care and well-being is a major passion for both of them. He and Melissa have been married for over 14 years. Ed has run a forum to help parrot lovers meet others with the same passion and find answers to their questions, Parrot Flock, since September, 2001.

Ed also writes for Examiner.com as their National Parrot Examiner since May, 2010. Ed really enjoys writing, and is working on his first book, which while not about parrots, might have one or two in the storyline. If you would like to read his column, click here to visit the site. Be sure to subscribe, so you will be notified about new articles.

Ed has a few interests, such as science fiction, especially Stargate SG:1, Stagate Atlantis, Dr. Who, Torchwood, and so on. He also has a fondest for coffee, specifically mocha cappuccino. Lastly, he has a strong interest in writing, which is the reason he started writing for Examiner.com. Hopefully, we will also add a link to his first book on Amazon as well, but we will have to wait for it to be completed first.

The Parrot Hut Podcast

The Parrot Hut podcast made its debut on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. It is a weekly podcasts posted online each Thursday evening. Ed is sometimes joined by his co-host, Elisha, an Umbrella Cockatoo, who seems to like to voice her thoughts at some point during each show. Elisha is the same bird that is featured in the intro to the show. Elisha is five years old, and has considered herself a star for quite some time now.
