2011 Theme music: "Transalgia" by Heather
Edwards

The Parrot Hut Podcast was designed to help parrot owners
to understand, train and care for the birds we love so very much. We
are dedicated to providing information for all levels of caretakers,
from the beginner to the veteran bird lover. We will cover a variety
of topics, such as breeding, proper care, needs, training, first aid
and much more. Please be sure to help insure the podcast will continue
to be available by supporting the podcast through making a small monthly
donation. Click on any link to our support
page to learn how you can help. Below you will find links to the
free programs, as they come available every week. Podcasts will be posted
to the site each Friday at 7pm CST.

How to download episodes using
iTunes:
- Download and install iTunes from the Apple
web site at http://www.apple.com/itunes/
- Once installed, bring up iTunes and click
on the link to the iTunes Store in the left hand panel.
- When the store comes up, click on the
link for Podcasts.
- Enter "The Parrot Hut" into
the search tool in the upper right hand corner, and press Enter.
- This should bring up a link to our show.
Click on the "subscribe" button.
- In a minute or so, the last episode of
the show will be downloaded. Click on the "Podcast" section
on the links on the left, under the Music Library.
- You will see The Parrot Hut now in this
section. Click on the arrow to the left of the name, and you will see
all current episodes. If there are any others available, you can click
the "Get All" or "Get" buttons to the right of the
names of the show or episodes.
- As long as iTunes is running, it will
download the new version when it becomes available each week. If you
miss one, just click on your podcast section, and use the buttons to
download any episodes you missed.
How to download episodes using
Juice:
- Download Juice by clicking the button
below:

- Once it is installed and running, click
on the plus sign to add a new feed
- Enter http://www.parrothut.com/podcasts
into the URL section, then click Save
- Now click on the Green button to check
for new podcasts, if it doesn't do it automatically.
Both Juice and iTunes will download the
latest podcast, if they are running on your computer. So I would suggest
starting them once a week or so, and it will keep you updated. Both
programs will also update their own software, when new versions are
available. Juice is just for podcasts, so it takes less memory to run
it, and less space. But iTunes will play your music, allow you to purchase
music online, as well as listen to podcasts. So they both have their
pros and cons, although I can't really think of any cons to be honest.
I use iTunes most of the time, since I also download music a great deal,
so it is up to you as to what is important to you. You may already have
iTunes on your computer, which runs on Mac and PCs. Juice also runs
on Linux machines, and is a much easier program to use for the most
part. If you have problems running either, please refer to the support
site for that software.
How to record an audio file
for questions and comments and upload to The Parrot Hut:
- You must have a sound recorder, such as
a Wave recorder or such, and a microphone, to record a voice message.
Each program is a little different, so you will need to figure that
part out on your own. If you can save the recording as an Mp3 file,
it would be much easier to send to us. It is possible to record an Mp3
file and send it using some cellular phones currently on the market.
Just be sure to delete the file after you have successfully sent it
to us to avoid wasting space on your phone.
- Once you have the .WAV or .Mp3 file recorded
on your computer, check to see the size of the file. For mp3 files,
be sure the bitrate is 128 for best quality and file size. Try to make
sure the file is less than 5MBs, as most ISPs will not send or deliver
a file larger than 5MB. Keep the message simple and short. For files
less than this size, e-mail it as an attachment to show@parrothut.com.
If there is no way to create a file smaller than 5MB, then you can download
and install a program called YouSendIt at https://www.yousendit.com/cms/liteaccount&s=50027.
- Once you have the program installed and
running, follow the instructions, and don't add any of the options that
cost anything, unless you want them, then send it to us at parrothut@gmail.com.
- You can always send questions and comments
in text format, but we would love to have you asking your own question
included into the show, it is up to you. Feel free to send text questions
and comments to show@parrothut.com.
- You can also now call us at 206-337-7388
and leave a voice mail message for us.
